Engineering is a unified team responsible for the engineering of
Disney Entertainment & ESPN digital and streaming products and
platforms. This includes product engineering, media engineering,
quality assurance, engineering behind personalization, commerce,
lifecycle, and identity.ResponsibilitiesThis role involves a range
of responsibilities related to software development within the
Content Metadata domain.
- Build and maintain scalable web applications and services
across the full stack, from the database to the user
interface.
- Launch features across the full stack including responsive and
intuitive user interfaces, and APIs that are built in a complex
microservice architecture.
- Use (or learn fast) technologies like React, Python,
Java/SpringBoot, MySQL, Postgres, AWS native resources (Lambda,
Kinesis, DynamoDB, S3, SNS, SQS, etc), Terraform, and GraphQL.
- Write clean, robust, maintainable, and well-documented code,
following team's best practices in software development, including
unit testing and continuous integration.
- Collaborate proactively with team members to solve problems by
performing on-call duties to root cause, fix, and resolve issues on
time.
- Dive deep in the details to monitor application performance and
implement continuous improvements to ensure high availability,
scalability, and low latency.
- Work closely with designers, product managers, and other
engineers to gather requirements, design solutions, and deliver
features that meet business needs.
- Take ambiguous or conflicting requirements and bring clarity by
proposing different solutions and communicating concrete and
concise trade-offs.
- Engage actively in team meetings, discussions, and
decision-making processes, contributing your insights and
experience to drive project success.Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Computer
Engineering, Mathematics, or a closely related field.
- 3+ years of software development experience.
- Proficiency in:
- Python & Java
- React, Javascript, HTML, CSS
- Relational databases (MySQL, Postgres), and NoSQL databases
(DynamoDB, DocumentDB, etc.)
- Event or pub/sub driven architecture (Kafka, Kinesis)
- Experience with AWS (Lambda, Kinesis, SQS/SNS, etc.).
- Deep understanding of core CS fundamentals, including OOP, data
structures, and algorithms.Preferred Qualifications
- Terraform
- GraphQL
- Graph Databases (Neo4j)The hiring range for this position in
Santa Monica, CA is $114,900.00 to $154,100.00 per year, in San
Francisco, CA is $125,800.00 to $168,700.00 per year, and in New
York, NY and Seattle, WA is $120,300.00 to $161,300.00 per year.
The base pay actually offered will take into account internal
equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic
region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other
factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided
as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range
of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the
level and position offered.
